My name is Hawa. I’m a writer, researcher, editor, and communications professional interested in what your grandmother has to say about art, history, and the future.

I'm a multi-hyphenate storyteller, researcher, and communications professional with 8 years of experience spanning across three continents. My various passions intersect through a dedication to interrogating, unpacking and contextualising mainstream narratives about Africa. I've co-created a brand identity for an award-winning grassroots organization in a cluster of Kenyan islands, trained speakers for a high-profile development conference in Rwanda, and interviewed folks from diverse backgrounds, including shepherds and farmers in Kiangwe village and fellow media and communications buffs. I recently completed my Masters in International Journalisms at SOAS University of London, honing my research and writing capabilities and refining my fluency in media theory, methods, and conventions. Before beginning my most recent role, I was a historical researcher and writer for hiistoriya.com and a Kenya-based film production company. I currently work as a communications professional at a social impact investor focused on humanitarian innovation in conflict settings.
